Rivington Design House is pleased to present a collection of new work by artist Fletcher Williams III. Coruscus arranges a vast collection of miniature specimens and ornate installations that play between scientific curiosity and perverse deformation, meticulously examining the physicality of Southern Rap. The exhibition focuses on two major embellishments that extend from the body: teeth clenching within gold grills, and ornate tracks of synthetic hair that weave into the head. These appendages share a concealed fragility in their make-up — Williams’s dissection of these tenacious ornaments expose a catalogued mass of delicate, quivering organisms. Through an unsettling transformation of the space, Fletcher’s jaw breaking constructions magnify the vulnerability of these appendages which in turn expose their innate beauty.
Fletcher received a BFA from The Cooper Union in 2010. His works have shown in such venues as Art Basel and Art Miami (2009) and Subspace Art Culver City (2010). Upcoming exhibitions include “ Powers That Be II” showing in Charleston, SC in May of 2011.
